ABOUT WILLIAM RICHERT: This unusual, multi-talented artist (producer, director, screenwriter, actor, novelist) managed to make several personal and eccentric films within the Hollywood studio system of the 1970s and 80s while remaining very much on its margins. As a writer-director, Richert (pronounced Rich-ert) had completed only three fiction features by 1996. All are characterized by unusual intelligence, mordant wit, volatile father-son relations and skillful direction of some top-notch performers. One, "Winter Kills" (1979), has become a cult classic embraced by savvy audiences, critics and filmmakers.

DEAR INTERNET SEARCHERS:  Soon this site will contain lost scenes from lost films.  There will be weblogs for Aaron Sorkin and Hannibal Pictures' Richard Rionda (in the 'Animosities & Bon Amis' section) along behind-the scenes-photos and complete screenplays (produced and unproduced) written by William Richert, including such films as "Winter Kills," starring Jeff Bridges and John Huston, "Success," starring Jeff Bridges, Belinda Bauer and Bianca Jagger, "Jimmy Reardon" aka "A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon" starring River Phoenix and introducing Matthew Perry, and "The Man in the Iron Mask With Alexander Dumas," the first film in history featuring the great Alexander Dumas as a character, played by William Richert.  The film stars Edward Albert,  Timothy Bottoms, Meg Foster, Dana Barron, Fannie Brett, Dennis Hayden and introduces Nicholas Richert.  Also there will be historical information about Bill's accalimed documentaries A DANCER'S LIFE, DERBY, AND THE PRESIDENT'S DAUGHTERS. "The role of Bob Pigeon in MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO is taken
by William Richert, another brilliant American filmmaker
Hollywood has been too small to contain.  His writing-directing debut "Winter Kills" was abandoned by its distributor in 1979, but reissued by Richert himself, at which time it began to win acclaim as one of the best, and certainly most dazzling films of its time." -- Richard Jameson, FILM COMMENT

LETTERS OF THE DAY
thanks for showing "aren't you.....goodbye" in tucson last friday.at the NEW LOFT . It was the surprise of the year for me and my daughter. ( my daughter was the one who stood up and said that your movie was changing her life ). I asked her to come with me because I had always wanted to see Jimmy Reardon and suddenly here was my chance. I had no idea that we were in for such a treat. A WORLD PREMIER  with the writer/director and amazing Meredith S on board !! ( I can't wait to now see WINTER KILLS and the rest of your stuff.) We bought the dvd from you in the lobby and are showing it to our friends. Great, great movie. Touches on so many themes--rich/poor, father/son, marriage, hormones, friendships, making your way in the world, etc...very nice touch to show Errol Flynn on T.V. while the kids are in the thick of it !!  well done. thanks for bringing it to tucson !

Hey, if you talk to Meredith thank her for us too. ( i have no way of  emailing her ) . She's terrific ! NATTY GANN, thanks to her amazing performance, is in a 3-way tie for best movie of the century. The other two are A LITTLE ROMANCE ( Diane Lane/ Laurence Olivier) and now AREN'T YOU EVEN GOING TO KISS ME GOODBYE.

Hello
I just recently attended the "Aren't You Even Gonna Kiss Me Goodbye?" Premiere at the Loft Cinema in Tucson,AZ. I really enjoyed it and it completly changed my opinion of what I thought was a good movie to an amazing movie. I would like to thank you for giving everyone the opportunity to see this great film. I have a great love of films (the good ones anyway) and I feel really lucky to have been able to see a great film the way it should be.  I know you are very busy but , I just had to tell that that film means a lot to me and thanks.

Dear Mr. Hayden My name is Jason . I am a college student at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. I am writing to you because you are an inspiration to drama students like myself. I wanted to tell you what a great fan I am of you and your work. I can't begin to talk about the effect you have had on my life. You are both legendary and everything you touch turns to gold. I would have to say that not to mention the fantastic production. You truly make your The Man in the Iron Mask is my favorite film and your role as D'Artagnan is done superbly, characters believable. I could go on for hours about the things you have done which I adore. I was wondering if you could send me an autographed picture. It would mean so much to me, I would like to have your picture framed for my desk. I'm sure you are very busy and I understand if you are not able to do so. Thank you very much for your time and for your talent. Sincerely Yours, Jason  Rapids MN SCSU Drama Department
I am a teacher at Escambia County Middle School in Atmore, Alabama. As a new school year fast approaches, I am in the process of gathering new materials for my classroom that will both inspire and encourage my students. I wanted to know if it was possible that I might receive an autographed photo for display in my classroom. It would not only be a cherished memento for me, but an inspiration to all my students to know the heights to which they may reach if they will only have faith in themselves and a willingness to work hard to achieve their dreams. Thank you for your time, and much continued success! Sincerely, Kim  , AL
